The master class is intended for:
- soloists
- ensembles
- beginners and advanced students

The participation in the course can be canceled free of charge up to 14 days before the course starts. After that, the full fee will be due.


Participation fee Masterclass (soloists):
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ € 180,00 for active participation which includes 2 units of 45 minutes each (= 2 x 45 minutes)

 

Participation fee (Ensembles):
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Duo - € 100,00 for each active participant 45 minutes each teacher (= 2 x 45 minutes)
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Trio - € 70,00 for each active participant 45 minutes each teacher (= 2 x 45 minutes)
·​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Quartet - 
€ 60,00 for each active participant 60 minutes each teacher (= 2 x 60 minutes)

-   € 100,00 passive participation (entire course period)

 

Xavier Larsson (Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin)

 

Xavier Larsson Paez (born 1991 in Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain) began his musical education in his hometown, where he studied both violin and saxophone. He completed his academic training in Germany at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln), earning a Concert Exam (Konzertexamen) as well as a Master’s degree in Contemporary Music.

As a soloist, he has performed in prestigious international concert halls, including the Musikverein Vienna, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Palau de la Música Catalana, and the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid. Furthermore, he has collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, and the Essen Philharmonic.

He has been awarded first prizes at numerous national and international competitions, including:

 

  • - Classic Winds International Festival (Germany, 2016)
  • - SaxoVoce (France, 2016)
  • - Intermusica (Austria, 2014)
  • - Michal Spisak (Poland, 2014)
  • - International Saxophone Competition Łódź (Poland, 2012)
  • - Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales (Spain, 2009)

His excellence in chamber music has also earned him several first prizes, notably at the August Everding Music Competition (Germany, 2021), the 20th International Chamber Music Competition Illzach (France, 2017), the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition (Germany, 2014), the Karlsruhe Competition for the Interpretation of Contemporary Music (Germany, 2014), and the Coop Music Award (Italy, 2014).

Beyond his concert career, he frequently serves as a jury member for international competitions such as the Andorra Sax Fest, the Singapore International Saxophone Summit, and Alpen Classica. He has been a scholarship recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Hezekiah Wardwell Scholarship), the Märkische Kulturstiftung Lüdenscheid, and the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg.

Xavier Larsson is a member of the Fukio Saxophone Quartet and Trio SpiegelBild. Additionally, he performs as a violinist in various projects with the OCIM Chamber Orchestra. He is currently a Lecturer of Saxophone at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin.

 

Johannes Thorell (Professor of Saxophone at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm)

 

Johannes Thorell (Professor of Saxophone at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm) made his soloist debut in 2002 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. He performed the hugely demanding saxophone concerto by Edison Denisov—a performance that received a rousing reception from both the press and the audience.

Since then, Thorell has received numerous prizes and grants, including:

 

  • - First prize in the Wolfgang Jacobi competition in Munich (together with pianist Magnus Sköld)
  • - Rosenborg/Gehrmans grant
  • - Major grants from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee
  • - Prizewinner at the Biel/Bienne competition for contemporary music

Thorell frequently tours the world with various programs and ensembles. He performs regularly with pianist Magnus Sköld and the Nordic Saxophone Quartet. His strong devotion to contemporary music has led to more than 50 world premieres by composers such as Andrea Tarrodi, Charlotte Bray, Tebogo Monnakgotla, Dror Feiler, Molly Kien, Volodymyr Runchak, and many others.

Together with Claus Olesen, Johannes is the creator of the Nordic Saxophone Festival. He has also served as the editor for the Nordic Saxophone Journal and hosted his own chamber music series, "Örebro Live."

 

In 2011, Johannes released his debut CD, "The Forbidden Saxophone," together with pianist Magnus Sköld, followed in 2012 by the CD "Far North." Since 2012, Johannes has been a Henri Selmer Paris Performing Artist.
